CIP Review

When i first heard of a module called CIP from friends in the opposite sem, i thought to myself about how boring this would be, cos what i had expected was something really quite different from what exactly happened throughout the module.

First things first.
PBL 1 and 2
PBL 1 was certainly more interesting as we were required to think critically into the problem to explore the different parts of the project of which we had to come up with solutions to. Setting up a company's computer systems, that certainly wasn't as easy as i first thought it was. Trips down to Sim Lim Square provided me with some basic information that i needed, such as the prices of hardware and softwares, and of course, introduced me to wider brands of computers.
Through countless efforts in research, we were able to come to a concensous on the various softwares and hardwares needed for the different departments of Futuristic Technology Pte Ltd. Working on the powerpoint itself was definitely better than expected too:)

PBL 2 was more of a split effort since there were relatively different problems. This PBL was one which i felt had greater relevance to the contents of our syllabus as we could look to the textbooks for reference, unlike PBL 1 which required more in-depth research both in the Internet and from the market. This is also one reason as to why i feel PBL 2 required lesser of critical thinking as compared to PBL 1.

On the whole, i truly enjoyed both PBLs and the process of which we had to come up with solutions for them. It is something i will definitely recommend for future Year 1s.

Tutorials
It is definitely true to say that the tutorial assignments which we had were enriching as they taught me the many more functions of MS Words that i had not been aware of before. Applying the skills to the MS Words Proposal for PBL 1 was also somewhat an enjoyable process as it felt very good to see a much better looking professional proposal as compared to the ones i had done before. However, i feel tutorials could be more engaging by allowing more communications between the tutor and students as our tutorials were relatively boring with the exception of the assignments every tutorial.

Tutor
I have to say that Mr Leong's feedback for PBL 1 gave us great motivation to work even harder for PBL 2 as we knew what we had to improve on and thus, had a clearer goal throughout the process of coming up with solutions to the various problems. He provided us with constructive advise for both PBLs and welcomed questions all the time. However, i felt that he could have provided us with more guidance before we commenced on both PBLs, such as introducing the main concepts of each PBL and advising us on the required fields for each solution. Still, i thought he did a relatively good job in general.

Syllabus
The overall syllabus covered was very good as it touched on many important areas and enriched my knowledge of computers, softwares and hardwares, and certainly covered more areas than i had expected.

Macromedia
This assignment was definitely one of the most interesting assignment of all as it allowed us to explore deeper into creating websites and the use of flash. The use of Flash especially, is something i felt caught more of my interest than dreamweaver as the final product was more beautiful than the actual website itself:) The skills which i gained from this assignment will without a doubt, serve as a stepping stone for future advances in these areas, especially now that the society is so e-based and managing a business without having websites seem almost impossible.

Out of all assignments and both PBLs, the one i truly enjoyed and appreciated most was the use of Flash as i mentioned above as i learnt a lot just by coming up with a short snippet of an introduction to my website.

The most useful thing i learnt from this module would of course, to be more computer savvy and to be capable of looking at my computer and being able to, in a way, see its inner side:)

As i have always mentioned, being able to work together with such a great team was always something i loved most. The groupwork made me grow by teaching me to be independent while allowing myself to trust others and being more open to opinions. Great teamwork made this whole process of CIP a truly enjoyable one, so thanks so much again to my group:)

PBL 2 Presentation

We have just completed our presentation for CIP PBL 2. Basically i've only got one word to describe how it went -- GREAT.
I think my group did very well. yes we were not even 90% confident of ourselves, neither were we fully prepared, but we did our very best. and we tried really hard. i've decided to give individual comments baout each of my grp members cos i feel they really deserve a very good grade.

Kin -- she gave so much effort and time in compiling and handling the ppt slides for this presentation. on top of that, the amount of hard work she put into preparing her presentation was clearly evidential during the presentation itself, and i feel that speaks everything of her.

Serene -- she worked hard for the proposal for PBL 1 and tried really hard to prepare herself for the presentation today. it was evident, especially before the presentation, she kept trying her best to be capable of presenting without looking at her slides.

Jiahui -- She did it. really did it:> She was able to overcome her fears and look at Mr Leong while presenting, and hardly referring to her notes or slides throughout the whole presentation.

Aaron -- We gave him extra slides to present and he did it without any word of grumble. and yes, i believe he is definitely improving:>

Justin -- put in much efforts towards the entire PBL 2 proposal. even at the last minute when realised we were short of a particular point which was previously inserted, he was able to handle the stress calm and steadily. I really feel he has done very well for both PBL 1 and 2. Presentation wise too of course:>

and that's why i say my group is great:> wonderful people who are able to help one another out and provide emotional support at the critical times.

So, we've finished our last presentation of yr 1. we've come a long way, put in so much effort, tremendous effort in fact, and produced work which we feel is worthy of an AD grade.

i'm really looking forward again to presentations and projects next sem. somehow.

so i hope to give credit once again to my fabulous grp mates who have made all these possible. Thank you!

waiting for lecture to start now.. tired again..popo's surgery was supposed to have been done last thurs. but at the last min, the blood bank went short of blood. what nonsense. i thought i wud finally be able to do sth concrete for popo after all the years of selfless care. and was thanking daddy for giving me his B+ blood. but when i went to the blood donation centre i was told i required my parent's signature since im under 18. crap. and sis cudn't donate either cos of too low an iron count.. umph.

very fortunately, popo had her surgery on sat, very successful according to the doc and seeing her talking so much and thinking so much again as usual, i can be sure she's much much better d. it's really a great great great relief:) was with her the night before at Mount E.. and as i looked at her, this sense of.. i dunno.. can't seem to put it in words..but i felt so glad, that she was gonna be fine. gonna be able to move ard without the bugging pain and to do what she had always told me she would do if she made it thru the op..n knowing now that she'll be able to move ard freely again, tt kinda feeling. i cant exactly describe. n she'll be discharged either today or tmr. great!!

had company dinner yest night.. met all the staff. it's scary smtimes to think i'll one day, n v soon, be where my mum is now. doing what she's doing now. given a choice, i'd have never wanted to take over. but i guess things just happen out of ur plans. will only have to work hard to enrich myself to do a good job in future. near future perhaps.

think my dad had and still have great friends. really.

two tests this week, today and tmr. bless me.

n trng has stopped, since IVP ended last week. going back to the doc for physio i guess

and i dreamt bt someone who used to be of high importance to me in the past, maybe 2 yrs back, and whom i thought was out of my thoughts permanently. came as a surprise in my dream. and i realised im still very much concerned bt that person. why.

CIP PBL 2

PBL 2

PBL 2 commenced last week and my group started our discussion on Monday. We discussed a few possible causes of each problem stated in the list given and noted down all suggestions and possibilities. We also completed the discussion notes form and submitted it on the same day.

This time round, i've decided that we will, and should definitely not do any last minute work. With that in mind, we came up with our schedule for group meetings and deadlines for research.

The proposal is due for submission in 2 weeks time and i'm confident we will be able to produce much better work than the previous PBL. More importantly, im very glad to say i've got a really cooperative team:)

PBL 2 --> we'll make it good.
